A urologist is a physician who has specialized knowledge and skill regarding problems of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs. Urology is classified as a surgical subspecialty. Urologists are trained to provide both medical and surgical treatment. D. Anthony Bedsole, M.D.
In addition to being a partner at Eastern Urology Associates, PA, Dr. Bedsole has served as the president of the Jefferson County Medical Society and president of the Alabama Urological Society. He maintains medical privileges at St. Vincent’s East, Trinity Medical Center, and Brookwood Medical Center. Dr. Bedsole is certified in urology by the American Board of Urology. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the American Medical Association, the Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, the Jefferson County Medical Society, and the Birmingham Urology Club. He is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. Alex M. Nading, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Nading has been a partner at Eastern Urology Associates, PA since 1981. He has served as the president of the Medical Staff at St. Vinvent’s East and as an officer in the Birmingham Surgical Society. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the American Medical Association, the Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, the Birmingham Surgical Society and the Birmingham Urology Club. He is a member of the medical staff at St. Vincent’s East, Trinity Medical Center, and at Brookwood Medical Center Dr. Nading is certified in urology by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Mell L. Duggan, Jr., M.D.
In addition to being a partner of Eastern Urology Associates, PA, Dr. Duggan has served as chairman of the Medical Center East Department of Surgery and as president of the Birmingham Urology Club. Dr. Duggan is certified in urology by the American Board of Urology. He maintains membership with several national and local professional organizations including the American Urological Association, the American Medical Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, the Jefferson County Medical Society, and the Birmingham Urology Club. Currently, Dr. Duggan is affiliated with St. Vincent’s East, Brookwood Medical Center and Trinity Medical Center. He is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. D. Taylor Bragg, M.D.

Dr. Bedsole earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama before attending medical school at the Medical College of Alabama (UAB) where he finished in 1967. He served as a surgical intern at Lloyd Nolan Hospital in Birmingham, AL, and then as a medical officer in the United States Navy. He completed a residency in urology at UAB in 1974.
Dr. Nading earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. Subsequently, he earned a Master of Science degree in anatomy and a Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Virginia. He completed five years of surgery and urology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) finishing in 1981.
Dr. Duggan graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine in 1984. He served as a resident in general surgery for two years and completed a three year residency in urology at UAB in 1989.
Dr. Bragg attended Birmingham-Southern College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984. He received his medical education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. Following graduation from medical school he completed two years of general surgery residency and three years of urological residency at the UAB Hospital. He joined Eastern Urology Associates in 1993.
Dr. Wade earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Birmingham-Southern College before attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. After graduation from medical school in 1998 he served as a resident in general surgery for two years at the UAB Hospital. He then completed four years of urological training there. During his residency he underwent extensive training in laparoscopic surgery.
